'Trust in the Lord with all your heart'

Trust is not believing God exists. It's putting your weight on him in the part of your life that scares you most. 'All your heart' rules out a hedged bet.

'And lean not on your own understanding'

Your understanding isn't wrong — it's incomplete. The verse doesn't say 'don't think.' It says don't lean. Don't bet your life on a perspective that can only see this far.

'In all your ways acknowledge him'

'Acknowledge' in Hebrew means 'know' — to bring God into the decision in real time. Not just on Sunday. Not just in crisis. In the meeting, in the budget, in the conversation.

'And he will make your paths straight'

Not 'flat' or 'easy.' Straight — meaning purposeful, leading somewhere. God does not promise no obstacles. He promises direction.

Applying it to a decision you face today

  • Name the decision.
  • Write what your understanding says.
  • Ask God explicitly to be in it — out loud.
  • Wait a day before deciding.
