Frequently asked questions
Where should I start reading the Bible?
Most first-time readers do best starting in one of the Gospels — John or Mark — rather than at Genesis 1 and reading straight through. A single chapter a day is plenty.
Which translation should I use?
For readability, the NLT, NIV, and CSB are all good starting points. The ESV and NRSV are slightly more literal. Reading two side by side often clarifies a difficult verse.
Do I need to believe anything to read these pages?
No. These pages explain context and themes and note where thoughtful Christians disagree. You are welcome to read as a believer, a skeptic, or someone simply curious.
