Matthew 6:33, explained
Jesus' answer to anxiety about food, clothes, and the future.
Matthew 6:33 lives inside the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus has just told his hearers not to worry about what they'll eat, drink, or wear. Verse 33 is his alternative to worry — not a promise of wealth, but a reordering of priorities that brings everything else into place.
What's the season you're in?
Context: verses 25–32
Jesus points to birds and lilies. Their Father feeds and clothes them. Worry, he says, is what people who don't know the Father do. There's a better starting point.
'But seek first' — order, not extra
'First' is the key word. It's a question of priority. Not 'seek only the kingdom and starve.' Seek the kingdom before, above, and through everything else.
'the kingdom of God'
Where God is recognized as king. In your decisions, your money, your relationships, your time. Not a place — a reality you submit to.
'and his righteousness'
Living the right way before God. Not perfection — alignment. The shape of life Jesus describes in this sermon.
'and all these things will be added to you'
'These things' is what Jesus just listed: food, drink, clothing — the essentials. Not luxury. Not your dream life. Your Father will take care of what you need so you can focus on his kingdom.
